The theme for the Sixth Sulwha Cultural Exhibition in 2012 was “Onggi – Respiring Earth.”
Onggi is the Korean word for earthenware, which is made with a special soil called onggito.
Unlike plain soil, onggito lets in air so the freshness of things stored inside the onggi can be maintained.
They are more antiseptic and better for fermenting and purifying certain foods.
Onggi are also superior because the materials are all natural and fully recyclable.
