<Screen, the overlap of traditions and
modern society> is a media artwork
of the
Sulwha Cultural Exhibition celebrating
its 14th anniversary this year.
Just as our ancestors used to enjoy the
changes of scenery as they opened and
closed the Screens and doors in their houses,
utilizing the media wall as media for the "screen"
in downtown we are looking at the traditions,
and we see the modern society from within.
This year was the year that required consolation
more than any other,
Hoping to sympathize with
viewers who are watching through the enormous
Screen in the city and wishing for the
peaceful days to come back to us.
Participating Works Pivotal Tree
The Pivotal Tree has been created as a
modern re-interpretation of the sacred tree,
being a
symbolic object hoping for peace and good
health of the chaotic and insecure modern society.
The main value that the sacred tree possesses
is its 'long vitality' and
'place of communication',
and to grasp this symbolic meaning it was created
as content
That holds the interactive factor
and changes that represent the vitality of a tree.
Irrespective of the surroundings,
building lines are captured as they are on the screen,
And
it takes us by surprise with a sense of reality,
as if there were real trees and an overwhelming size.

Dance Company
As Pivotal Tree is a symbolic object
hoping for peace and good
Health of the
chaotic And insecure modern society,
the video created with
Sulwhasoo and
Ambiguous Dance Company used
‘Dangsan Ritual’ as a motif,
which is
The origin of Pivotal Tree wishing for the
Richness of the village,
and reinterpreted
it with modern choreography and props.

Pivotal Lab is a special project
Group designed
for contest
for Sulwha Cultural Exhibition.
In this project, Director Jang Su Ho
who is in charge of visual art director of
variety of images, Director You Jae Hun
who is in charge of creative art director and
a stage performer, and Director Chu Bong Gill
who is in charge of media, have gathered to
create a media artwork that converges
technique and different fine arts, Bringing
're-evaluation of Korea’s tradition' as the topic.
